In 2002, the Japanese automaker Nissan has started producing a new line of mid-size crossover SUVs, called "Murano". Nissan Murano features a front engine, front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive layout. The Murano was manufactured in three generations.
The first generation (2002–2007) was released as a 2003 model and was based on the Nissan FF-L platform. This generation was available with 111.2 inches wheelbase and an independent suspension on all wheels. The first Murano models came with CVT transmission and two engine options – 3.5L VQ35DE V6, 245 hp (183 kW) and 2.5L QR25DE I-4 (for Japan) engine.
The second generation (2008–2014) was built on the Nissan D platform and featured new interior and exterior design. In addition to the 4-door SUV body style, this generation was also offered with a 2-door convertible body style. The wheelbase was slightly decreased to 111 inches. The models from this period were equipped with CVT or 6-speed automatic transmission. The 3.5L VQ35DE V6 engine was upgraded to 260 – 265 hp (194–198 kW). A new engine option was provided as well – 2.5 dCi I4, 190 hp (140 kW) engine.
In 2014, Nissan launched the third generation as a 2015 model. It comes with a new "floating roof" design and a toned-down "V-Motion" nose. The infotainment system is improved and new, modern security features are provided. For now, this newest generation is available with only one engine type – the 3.5 L VQ35DE V6 260 hp (190 kW) engine.
