The history of Nissan 240SX has begun in 1988, when the Japanese automaker Nissan decided to replace the 200SX model with a new line of sports cars. This line was called "240SX" and came with FR layout. Nissan 240SX was based on the Nissan S platform and was manufactured in two generations.
The first generation (1989–1994) was available in three body styles: 2-door coupe, 2-door convertible and 3-door hatchback. The first Nissan 240SX came with 97.4 inches and a stylish design with sloping front with pop-up headlights. This generation was also available with 5-speed manual or 4-door automatic transmission. Two engine options were provided as well – 2.4 L KA24E I4 and 2.4 L KA24DE I4 gasoline engine.
The second generation was launched in 1995. Both the convertible and the hatchback models were dropped, so this generation was offered in the coupe body style only. There was only one engine type as well – the 2.4 L KA24DE I4 gasoline engine. The transmissions remained the same, while the wheelbase was increased. This generation also came with dual air bags, automatic seatbelts, and fixed lamps that replaced the pop-up headlights. In 1998, Nissan 240SX was discontinued. However, this model is still a favorite in drifting.
