In 1973 the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi has begun producing a line of compact cars, named Lancer. The first model (A70) was created to fill the gap between the Minica kei car and the bigger Galant. Two years later, a new model, Lancer Celeste, was introduced. At the beginning, Celeste featured 1.4- and 1.6-liter engine options, but bigger engine sizes were available later.
In 1979, Mitsubishi presented Lancer EX – with new features, like MCA-JET system and Silent Shaft Technology, but only for two types of engines – 1.4 and 1.6-liter, although other engine sizes became available later. In the period 1988 – 2000, Mitsubishi manufactured a Mirage-based Lancer model with five generations. In 2000, a new model of Lancer came to the market – Lancer Cedia (from “Century Diamond”). The Cedia was offered in sedan and station wagon forms. In 2005, Mitsubishi introduced the "Concept X" model car and created in 2007 the Lancer Evolution X – this was the start of a new period for Lancer. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X came with modern safety features and provided an excellent combination of attractive appearance and high performance.
