In 2002 the Japanese automobile manufacturer Mazda started manufacturing Mazda 6 (also known as Mazda6 or Mazda Atenza) – a line of big family cars. Mazda 6 was created as a replacement of Mazda Capella/616-626 and quickly became very popular – from 2002 until today more than one million units Mazda 6 were sold worldwide. Mazda 6 was manufactured in three generations.
The first generation (2002–2008) was offered in three versions: a four-door sedan (called “Sport Sedan”), a five-door hatchback (named “5-Door”) and a five-door estate (known as “Sport Wagon”). The first generation was based on the Mazda GG platform. In 2006 a high-performance version – Mazdaspeed6 was released. It featured redesigned front fascia with a raised hood, a 6-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive.
The second generation (2007–2012) was based on the new Mazda GH chassis platform and was available only as a sedan model in America. This generation had larger and longer size. Engine was improved as well.
The third and latest generation was launched in 2012. In North America, the new Mazda 6 was introduced as a 2014 model. Three models are offered in the United States: Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. All these models are available as four-door sedans and come with SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter gasoline engine, Bluetooth hands-free telephone system, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and Keyless entry with keyless access and push-button start system.
