Ten years ago, Lincoln – the luxury division of the legendary American Automobile manufacturer Ford – started producing a new series of mid-size luxury crossover SUVs, named "MKX". The MKX is designed as a rebadged variant of the Ford Edge and came to replace the Lincoln Aviator model. Lincoln MKX has been manufactured in two generations.
The first generation (2007–2015) was based on the Ford CD3 platform and came with a durable, unibody construction. The standard layout is front engine, front-wheel drive, but a four-wheel-drive is also offered as an option. This generation featured 111.2 inches wheelbase and a 6-speed 6F automatic transmission. The first MKX models were equipped with a 3.5 L Duratec 35 V6 engine, but in 2011 Lincoln presented a new engine option – 3.7 L Duratec 37 V6 engine. In 2011, Lincoln MKX was upgraded with some interior and exterior modifications.
The second generation started in 2015 as a 2016 model. It utilizes the Ford CD4 platform and is still equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission only. This generation comes with two engine options – a standard 3.7 L Cyclone V6 (303 hp) and an optional 2.7 L Ecoboost V6 (335 hp) engine. The new Lincoln MKX is offered in four trim levels: Premiere, Select, Reserve and the highest level – Black Label.
