In 1997, Lexus – the luxury vehicle division of the famous Japanese automaker Toyota – has introduced a new line of mid-size luxury crossover SUVs, called "RX". Lexus RX features 5-door wagon body style and front-wheel or four-wheel layout. The RX series was manufactured in four generations.
Lexus RX 350 appeared for first time in the second generation (2003–2008). It featured 106.9 inches wheelbase and was based on the Toyota’s K platform. Three engine options were available in this generation – 3.0 L 1MZ-FE V6, 3.3 L 3MZ-FE V6, and 3.5 L 2GR-FE V6 engine. There were also two types of transmission: 1-speed CVT and 5-speed automatic transmission. Plus, the Lexus RX 350 was provided with: eight airbags, Vehicle Stability Control, a tire-pressure monitoring system, and more useful features.
Lexus RX 350 was also a part of the third generation of the RX Series (2008–2015). This generation came with increased wheelbase and 6-speed automatic U660E/F or CVT transmission that provides superior fuel economy. Lexus RX 350 is also equipped with an improved, 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6, 275 hp engine. The drag coefficient was lowered as well. In 2012, the RX 350 model was upgraded with some exterior modifications.
Lexus has launched the fourth generation of the RX Series in 2015 for the 2016 models. This newest generation is larger and features 109.8 inches wheelbase. The new Lexus RX models also comes with 8-speed automatic transmission and three engine options: 2.0 L 8AR-FTS I4 turbocharged gasoline, 3.5 L 2GR-FKS V6 gasoline, and 3.5 L 2GR-FXS V6 hybrid gasoline engine.
