In 1999, the legendary American Automobile manufacturer Ford has launched the production of a new series heavy duty, full size sport utility vehicles (SUVs), called "Excursion". The Excursion is considered as Ford's largest SUV in its lineup for the period 1999 – 2005.
Ford Excursion was based on the heavy-duty, full-size Super Duty line of trucks and came with 137.1 inches wheelbase. The Excursion was also available with lift gate and 2 dutch doors. This great vehicle featured a front engine, rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive layout. Plus, Ford Excursion was equipped with 4-speed or 5-speed automatic transmission. Four engine options were provided as well: 5.4 L Triton V8 gas, 6.8 L Triton V10 gas, 7.3 L Powerstroke V8 turbodiesel, and 6.0 L PowerStroke V8 turbodiesel engine.
In 2005, Ford Excursion was upgraded with some exterior changes, such as new grills and bumpers. However, this year became the last year for this series. Ford decided to discontinue the Excursion in the late 2005 in order to concentrate more on the Super Duty trucks.
