DODGE NEON

In 1994, Dodge has presented a new line of compact cars, named "Neon" (also known as "Chrysler Neon" or "Plymouth Neon"). The Neon was based on the Chrysler PL platform and had a transverse front-engine, front-wheel drive layout. Dodge Neon has been manufactured in two generations.

The first generation (1994–1999) featured 104 inches wheelbase and was available in two body styles – 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan. Dodge Neon was equipped with 5-speed NVG T-350 manual or 3-speed TorqueFlite 31TH automatic transmission. Three gasoline engine options were provided as well: 1.8 L EBD I4, 2.0 L A588 I4, and 2.0 L ECC I4 engine. In this period, Dodge Neon was offered in six trim levels – Base (standard), Highline (with air conditioning), Sport (with color-keyed wheel covers), EX, ACR (with alloy wheels), and R/T (with white hood and trunk "Rally" stripes).

The second generation was launched in 1999. It featured new refined design and slightly increased wheelbase. The coupe was dropped and only the 4-door sedan body style remained. Two engine options were available in this period – the old 2.0 L A588 I4 engine and a new 1.6 L EJD I4 gasoline engine. The second generation also came with two additional transmission types: 4-speed Ultradrive 40TE automatic and 4-speed Ultradrive 41TE automatic transmission. But this generation was the last one for the Neon series, because it was discontinued and replaced by the Caliber model.
