In 1959, Dodge has introduced the first model Challenger that was called “Dodge Silver Challenger” (because of its silver paint). The Silver Challenger was a limited edition and came with some additional features, like premium white wall tires, full wheel covers, electric windshield wipers, dual arm rests and sun visors, etc.
Dodge Challenger was manufactured in three generations. The first generation (1970–1974) included pony cars that were constructed by utilizing the Chrysler E platform. The first Challengers were much similar to the Plymouth Barracuda model and were available with longer wheelbase, bigger dimensions and more lavish interior. The second generation (1978 – 1983) was a version of the early Mitsubishi Galant Lambda coupe. These cars featured nearly the same style as the first generation. However, the second generation Challengers came with smaller, four-cylinder engines with innovative balance shafts that were able to dampen the vibration.
The third and newest generation Dodge Challenger was launched in 2008 – a 2-door coupe that features some common design elements with the first generation Challengers, but is much taller and longer. The new Challengers are also provided with some incorporated Mercedes components and a 5-speed AutoStick automatic transmission. These magnificent vehicles are offered in several different exterior colors and come with a variety of useful features: air conditioning, power windows, locks, and mirrors; cruise control, and 17-inch (430 mm) aluminum wheels.
