In 1999 Chevrolet came out with anew upscale trim level of its mid-size SUV Blazer – the TrailBlazer. Three years later, TrailBlazer has become a separate Chevrolet model. Chevrolet TrailBlazer was manufactured in two generations.
The first generation (2002–2009) was built on the truck platform GMT360. The TrailBlazer was available with a four-wheel drive as an option, independent front suspension, and a five-link rear suspension. The first generation was also provided with 4-speed automatic transmission and three engine options – 4.2 L LL8 I6, 5.3 L V8 and 6.0 L LS2 V8 engine.
A new, LTZ version was released later. It came with improved interior features (leather), enhanced sound system (Bose), alloy wheels, and four-wheel disc brakes. Chevrolet also introduced a model with a longer wheelbase, named "EXT". It featured 3 rows with seats for 7 passengers. In 2006 another model was presented – SS. Unlike the other TrailBlazer vehicles, the SS version was available with an all-wheel drive system.
In 2009 Chevrolet TrailBlazer was discontinued and was replaced by the Chevrolet Traverse. However, in 2012 the TrailBlazer has returned with a second generation, which is still available today on the Australian and the Southeast Asian market. The second generation is offered with two diesel engine options and two trim levels: LT and LTZ.
