CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500

CHEVROLET SUBURBAN 1500

The history of Chevrolet Suburban has begun more than 80 years ago, when the legendary American Automobile manufacturer General Motors has introduced a new line of full-size, extended-length sport utility vehicles. In 1935, General Motors has launched the all-steel "Carryall-suburban" model. Later, the name was shortened to "Suburban" only. "Suburban" is considered as the longest continuous use automobile nameplate in production. The long history of Chevrolet Suburban includes twelve generations.

The first generation (1933–1934) was designed particularly for National Guard units and Civilian Conservation Corps units. The first Suburbans featured a station wagon body that was constructed from wood on a 1/2 ton truck frame. The second generation (1935–1940) came with the introducing of the Carryall Suburban model that was available with more durable, all-metal construction. The third generation started in 1941. The Suburban vehicles from this generation served as military transport vehicles during World War II.

The fourth generation (1947–1955) was built on the Advance Design platform and came with three transmission options: 3-speed manual, 4-speed manual and 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The fifth generation (1955–1959) utilized the Task Force platform and featured a little bit shorter wheelbase. The sixth generation was released in 1960. The Suburbans from this period were provided with front independent suspension and new styling with big oval ports above the grille.

The seventh generation (1967–1972) was built on the C/K series platform. It was launched as a 3-door station wagon in the North America and a 5-door SUV in Brazil. The eight generation (1973–1991) came as a 4-door vehicle. A half ton version, called "1500" was introduced. In 1992, the ninth generation was presented. Chevrolet Suburban 1500 from this generation was equipped with a base small-block 5.7 L (350 cu in) V8 engine and an optional, but rare, 6.5 L Turbo diesel engine. A 4L60 4-speed automatic transmission was provided as well.

The tenth generation (2000–2006) was built on the GMT830 platform. The Suburban 1500 featured a new, 5.3 L (325 cu in) engine and an optional, Quadrasteer four-wheel steering. The eleventh generation (2007–2014) utilized the GMT931 platform and 130.0 in. wheelbase. The Suburban vehicles from this period were equipped with three engine options and 4-speed or 6-speed automatic transmission. The twelfth generation was launched in 2015. This newest generation is available with 5.3L or 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 FlexFuel engine. Two types of transmission are offered as well – 6-speed and 8-speed automatic transmission. The latest model, 2016 Chevrolet Suburban, comes with a variety of modern features, such as: power-adjustable pedals, forward collision alert, IntelliBeam headlamps, lane keep assist and a safety alert seat.
