In 1982, Chevrolet has introduced a new series of compact pickup trucks, called "S-10". The Chevrolet S-10 was manufactured in three generations.

The first generation (1982–1993) was based on the GMT325 platform and was the first compact pickup truck that was produced by the big three American automakers. The first Chevrolet S-10 vehicles came with 1.9L Isuzu 4 cylinder (RPO LR1) engine, but more engine options became available later. Several transmission options were provided as well. Chevrolet has also released an optional appearance package, called "S-10 Baja".

The second generation (1994–2004) came with some interior, exterior and brake modifications. The S-10 models from this period featured 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. Two engine types were offered: 2.2 L I4 and 4.3 L V6 engine. In 2004, Chevrolet S-10 was discontinued on the North American market. However, the production in Brazil continued and in 2012 a third generation was launched. It is a Brazilian manufactured version of the Chevrolet Colorado with two engine choices available: 2.4 L Flexpower flex-fuel and 2.8 L Duramax diesel engine.
