In 2004 Chevrolet has started producing a line of compact cars, named Cobalt. Chevrolet Cobalt was created to replace both the Cavalier and the Prizm. The Cobalt was based on the GM Delta platform and was offered as both a coupe and sedan.
Chevrolet Cobalt featured independent front suspension and longer wheelbase. It was also provided with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. In 2006 Chevrolet launched a new model – non-supercharged Cobalt SS. One year later, Cobalt's engines were improved in order to provide additional power. New console, steering wheel and radio head unit were added. In the next year, Cobalt SS came with a new, 260 hp (194 kW) turbocharged engine – and the result was better fuel economy. The 2008 models also included the innovative StabiliTrak stability control system. In 2009 the Cobalt offered increased power and fuel economy – this model was also available with new features, like Bluetooth capabilities. The next year (2010) was actually the final year of Chevrolet Cobalt, because it was replaced by the Chevrolet Cruze.
