In 2001 Chevrolet has introduced a series of SUVs, called Avalanche. Chevrolet Avalanche is available as a four-door, five or six passenger model and features GM's long-wheelbase chassis. This outstanding vehicle is based on the GMT800 platform and was available with light gray plastic body cladding at the beginning. The first models (2001 – 2006) came with modern front fascia design and two engine options: Vortec 5.3 L V8 and Vortec 8.1 L V8. Chevrolet Avalanche is also provided with GM's AutoTrac full-time, push-button four-wheel-drive system, all-terrain white-lettered tires, seventeen-inch alloy wheels, remote radio controls, a security system, SRS side airbags, and much more features.

The second generation Chevrolet Avalanche (2007 – 2013) was offered with a special off road package that included a modified suspension for harsh terrain, an innovative automatic locking rear differential, aluminum under body skid plates, wheel flares, badges, wheels and tires. This generation was available in three trim levels. In 2013 a special model, named Black Diamond Edition, was released – with unparalleled emblems and a limited-edition coffee table book. The Black Diamond was actually the last model, because in 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche was discontinued.
