In 2008, the South Korean automaker Kia replaced its Cerato model with a new line of compact cars, named "Forte". Kia launched the Forte in three versions: two-door coupé, four-door sedan, and five-door hatchback. Kia Forte features a front-engine, front-wheel drive layout and was manufactured in two generations.

The first generation began in 2009 model year, though Kia Forte has appeared on both Canadian and American markets in 2010. The Forte is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Elantra. There are also two types of transmissions available – 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.
